Forum on Civic Education in Maryland
Presented by LWV Mid-Shore
Tuesday, Nov 12, 2019
4:30 - 5:45 PM
Talbot County Free Library's Easton Branch
Easton MD
We invite you and your guests to join us for a presentation on and discussion of the current state of civic education in Maryland's public schools. The presentation is based on the findings of a two-year state-wide study initiated by the League of Women Voters of Maryland; eight members of our League participated in the study, gathering information on the high schools of Caroline, Dorchester, and Talbot counties. They will give a brief summary of the findings (click here to read the Executive Summary) followed by an update on new initiatives in Maryland’s social studies curriculum, especially as they are being incorporated locally, and then lead us in a discussion of the role our League can play in supporting these local initiatives. Please print the Fact Sheet by clicking here and bring it with you so we have enough copies; and be sure to RSVP if you think you might be coming!
The meeting is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served. We encourage you to spread the word about this opportunity to hear how civic education is evolving and to invite friends to join the discussion. Please be sure to let us know you are coming by RSVP'ing below.
